With a personal cancer experience, an intense curiosity about the nature of life and a strong desire to help others, Nancy E. Schmitt, President of Aviana, Inc., set out to expand her education in wellness at the nationally accredited Pennsylvania School of Muscle Therapy (PSMT). Upon completion of her studies in 1996, Nancy continued to advance her education so that she could provide her community with the best comprehensive therapies and most current knowledge available. Her advanced work includes intense study in treating persons living with Cancer and Critical Illness; training with international healers, bodyworkers, scientists, and leaders in Mind-Body Medicine, Energy Medicine, and Native American Medicine; and work with facilitators in Mindfulness and the development of Intuitive Ability. Nancy began her Energy Work studying with Reiki teachers at Harvard & Brown Medical Schools and Yale University School of Nursing and pursued her initial training in Native American healing with Lewis Mehl Madrona, who worked as a physician in Pittsburgh 's largest hospital system and author of C oyote Medicine. Her studies of Meditation culminated with a week intensive lead by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD., author and founder of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
To enhance the development of her hands-on skills, Nancy turned to the “science” behind the work. Some of the highlights include studying under pioneers such as Valerie Hunt, EdD; Carolyn Myss, PhD; Bernie Siegel, MD, C. Norman Shealy, MD, PhD; Mietek Wirkus, Bioenergy Consultant, plus a one week intensive led by Joan Boreysenko. More recently, she has twice traveled to Ke Kumu O' Mauna Lani, learning the ways and wisdom of Traditional Hawaiian Healers. As a member of the American Massage Therapy Association, Massage Therapist, and Business Owner, Nancy appears as a guest speaker at hospitals, such as the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center , Penn State College of Medicine, nursing homes, and private seminars. Drawing on her knowledge, skills, and her personal experience with breast cancer, she also conducts Stress Reduction and other “quality of life” seminars. The spirit of Nancy 's business is encompassed in the name Aviana, which means life and living grace. Nancy has been described as an inspirational leader with great enthusiasm as she shares her life experiences, education, passions, and dreams, which have been written into every movement, touch, & thought that is embodied in Aviana's Mindful Touch Therapy! |
